Ted Pollard, who was once a finalist for the Mr Universe title, losing out to Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1967, who played his idol Bruce Lee on the London stage for a year, who is a cabaret and TV performer and tours the word as a martial arts and golf fitness guru, does not pretend that winning £1,000 with the St Barnabas House Lottery is the most memorable experience of his life.
“It was still a wonderful feeling to win, because I am so happy to support St Barnabas House, who once took such phenomenal care of a very dear friend of mine. I can’t thank them enough. I thought the least I could do was to do something for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice and St Barnabas House.
“I don’t know how I will spend the money. But I love apple pies and I haven’t had one in seven months, because I’ve been training. But now I can afford a very big apple pie.”
The remarkable Mr Pollard, who will be 78 later this year (“I’m not retired, just tired”) maintains his awesome fitness programme. He lives in East Preston when he is not touring the world.
“I do a lot of things,” he says. “I’ve still got my card as a professional golfer, and I’ve done fitness work with Lee Westwood and Vijay Singh, among others. I’ve also been a professional acrobat and wrestler, I’m just finishing a book. So my life is as busy as ever.”
St Barnabas House uses the money raised by Lottery players to provide the very best hospice care to local people and their families.
